Introduction Online reviews give businesses with strategic insight that is critical for pricing setting, demand forecasting, product quality evaluation, and customer relationship management. However, fully using the strategic potential of online reviews is dependent on the underlying IT infrastructure. IT systems, according to Bharadwaj (2000), "such as groupware and expert systems, when supplied with firm-specific information and insights, are turned into specialized assets that are practically hard to copy by rivals" (p. 175). Following Bharadwaj, we argue that when stocked with online evaluations, review systems represent specialized assets in the form of the (reviewing) customers' experiences and expertise.
